About the Internet Project "In the Memory of Cancer Victims"

The internet project "In the Memory of Cancer Victims" started early in 2012 by me, Oleg Frenkel. The idea for this project was conceived by the death of my dear aunt who succumbed to stomach cancer. She was not the first cancer victim in my family. My other aunt succumbed to breast cancer and my dad's cousin succumbed to colon cancer.

In 2010 I started looking how I could help cancer research. I decided to join World Community Grid and contribute CPU time of my personal computers to cancer research. World Community Grid is pretty reliable and safe system. World Community Grid runs on software called BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing), developed at University of California, Berkeley, USA with funding from NSF (National Science Foundation). IBM Corporation has donated the hardware, software, technical services and expertise to build the infrastructure for World Community Grid and provides free hosting, maintenance and support. The above information is taken from here. Here is the privacy statement by World Community Grid.

In the early 2012 I realized that I could help substantially more with cancer research by promoting Wolrd Community Grid so that more people contribute CPU time of their personal computers. Today there are 91,866 active users of World Community Grid (taken from here as of April 4, 2012). If we double the number of active users, the power of World Community Grid would double too, meaning for example that the screening for Leishmaniasis would take less than half a year instead of less than a year.
